A new official trailer has landed online, and fans of Pennywise and the cursed town of Derry can hold out just a little longer before the new HBO Max prequel series IT: Welcome to Derry arrives next month. And we have all the details to catch you up so you don’t miss a thing.

The series positions itself as an origin story, turning back the clock to 1962 and telling the tale of how Pennywise’s terror first began to reshape the town. In the trailer, we see a meteor crashing, flickers of Bob Gray, and ominous hints that this iteration will lean deep into cosmic horror while weaving in connective threads to other corners of Stephen King’s universe.
Leading the cast is Bill Skarsgård, returning as Pennywise and now also serving as an executive producer. Alongside him, Taylour Paige plays Charlotte Hanlon, Jovan Adepo as LeRoy Hanlon, and interestingly enough, Chris Chalk will portray Dick Hallorann, a character originally from The Shining now landing squarely into the quiet little town of Derry. The cast also includes James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.

Behind the camera, much of the It film squad returns. Andy Muschietti is back as a core creative force, directing several episodes including the pilot, alongside Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs as developers. Showrunning duties fall to Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane, while composer Benjamin Wallfisch returns from the previous film adaptations of the story for this latest episodic installment. Underlying it all is Stephen King’s involvement, as Muschietti confirmed King offered guidance on the series and its expanded mythos.
The journey to this point was not without interruptions. The show was first announced in early 2022, with the Muschiettis and Fuchs developing the concept. Production began in May 2023 in Ontario shooting under the alias Greetings from Fairview. But in July 2023, the SAG-AFTRA strike forced a pause on production as updated contracts at large were being negotiated. Filming later wrapped in August 2024. There is already a three season outline for the larger narrative, with the first set in 1962, and later seasons planned for 1935 and 1908, telling the story in reverse chronology. Why we’re going backwards for this story isn’t quite clear yet, but thankfully we won’t have to wait long for some answers.

The series will run eight episodes and is slated to premiere on October 26, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and to stream on HBO Max, with episodes airing weekly thereafter toward a December finale.
What this latest trailer offers is a potent mix of dread and curiosity, teasing a web of lore and origin points, with the creeping suspicion that Derry has always been a nexus of King’s universe. The visual Easter eggs are quick but immediately eyebrow raising, showing a Shawshank prison truck, a mention of Carrie, the appearance of Hallorann, headlines hinting at infrastructural rot, and meteor shards strewn across town. This aligns with what Muschietti has described to be “interlude chapters” woven into King’s novel and the decision to tell the story backwards. Perhaps more is at play here than we realize.
